Talent... the old idea of talent is outdated. Growth mindset states that you are willing to overcome obstacles over and over again in the face of failure. Jake Parker breaks down Talent into Fluid Talent (Born with) and Channeled Talent (Learned).

ReplyDeleteFluid talent is used to become successful. A friend of mine was always naturally talented in playing soccer. She was quick and had the body for it. She used her talent to become better by always practicing and being on a team. Channeled talent is also important in becoming successful. I was never the best at art, it was just to a basic level and I would not practice, although I was always attracted to art. Being in Art 1 last year allowed me to be able to learn more about art than I had ever known. Learning allowed me to get to where I am today in art.

I think that channeled talent is more important that fluent talent. If someone has fluid talent but they do not make an effort to improve or they do not use their talent, then what is the point. But someone who has channeled talent has learned and makes the effort to improve from where they first began to become better artists. There is no point in being an artist if you do not learn and become better.

ReplyDelete- An experience Fluid and Channeled Talent at the same time I've observed is how a friend of mine is really good at doing oil paintings without brushes just using hands and nails. I've seen some paintings and they are actually amazing! This person said that since a kid he would always practice and take some classes. He was a good artist and by those classes he became more successful.

- In my opinion I think Channeled Talent is more important based on learning. You'll learn new things and become more good at art then having fluid talent. Making mistakes in art is good and normal because without making mistakes it's pretty much saying you aren't learning anything.
1) Talent? To me talent is what you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft
ReplyDelete2) I would have to say skill is most important. Mostly because people rely on there talent and when it comes to another skill they dont know it. I agree with jake, if you keep working and trying to perfect your work you will get better no matter what.
